IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING THE MAY 2, 2020 ELECTION

Pursuant to Section 418.016 of the Texas Government Code, the Governor of Texas has issued a proclamation suspending certain provisions of the Texas Election Code and the Texas Water Code to allow all local political subdivisions that are utilizing the May 2, 2020 uniform election date to postpone their election to the November 3, 2020 uniform election date.  After discussion and careful consideration, the Elections Division of the Galveston County Clerk's Office has informed Galveston County Water Control and Improvement District No. 1 that it will not be providing the Water Company with election services for the May election.
At its meeting on March 26, 2020, the Board of Directors of Galveston County Water Control and Improvement District No. 1 ordered the postponement of the Water Company's May 2, 2020 election to the November 3, 2020 uniform election date.  Order No. 2020-02, Order Postponing May 2, 2020 Election.
It is important to note that this action preserves all candidate filings and ballot order actions that have already been taken.  The postponement does not have the effect of reopening candidate filings.  The Texas Secretary of State's Director of Elections has issued an advisory on this matter that provides interesting and important additional reading:

De conformidad con la Seccion 418.016 del Codigo de Gobierno de Texas, el Gobernador de Texas emitio una proclamacion que suspende ciertas disposiciones del Codigo de Elecciones de Texas y el Codigo de Aguas de Texas para permitir que todas las subdivisiones politicas locales que utilizan la fecha de eleccion uniforme del 2 de mayo de 2020 se pospongan su eleccion a la fecha de eleccion uniforme del 3 de noviembre de 2020. Despues de una discusion y una cuidadosa consideracion, la Division de Elecciones de la Oficina del Secretario del Condado de Galveston informo al Distrito de Control y Mejoramiento del Agua del Condado de Galveston No. 1 que no proporcionara a la Compania de Agua servicios electorales para las elecciones de mayo.

Requirements for Filing for Candidacy of a Director of the District

The next Board of Directors' election is May 2, 2020.  The Form of Application to be placed on the ballot can be obtained by contacting Kim Holle at kholle@wcid1.com.  The first date Applications to be placed on the ballot can be filed is January 15, 2020.  The deadline for filing an application to be placed on the ballot is February 14, 2020 at 5:00 PM.  Completed Applications to be placed on the ballot should be delivered to Kim Holle at the District's Office located at 2750 FM 517 Road East, Dickinson, Texas 77539.  To be qualified for election as a Director a person must (1) be a resident of the State of Texas; (2) own land subject to taxation in Galveston County Water Control and Improvement District No. 1; and (3) be at least 18 years of age.
