Fire Department Service Fees
As most of you should remember, the Water Company and the Dickinson Volunteer Fire Department held an election in November of 2017, for the voters to consider whether or not to add a mandatory Fire Protection Service Fee to your water bill. The voters of the District overwhelmingly voted "YES" to that choice. You will now notice a $5 per month fee per residential connnection and a $10 per month fee per commercial connection on your monthly water bill. This is now a required fee and water service may be disconnected if you do not pay this portion of your water bill. Please note that 100% of the proceeds of this fee goes to the DVFD to help support this necessary and valuable service. Thank you for your support of the DVFD.
Gulf Coast Water Authority Announces Annual Change to Water Disinfection
The Gulf Coast Water Authority (GCWA) will temporarily change its water disinfection process from chloramine (chlorine and ammonia) to free chlorine (chlorine only) April 16-30.
This routine maintenance allows GCWA and the municipalities that it serves the opportunity to clean their water systems of harmless bacteria that can occur during warm weather.
Municipalities also will flush their systems by opening fire hydrants during this period. Flushing and the temporary switch to free chlorine help to maintain water quality during the hottest months of the year.
All Galveston County municipalities, except League City, Friendswood and Bolivar, will be included.
This process will not cause adverse health effects, though users may notice some water discoloration or cloudiness. Both of these conditions are harmless and temporary and should be remedied by fire hydrant flushing.
Owners of fish and reptiles should follow standard water treatments using products that remove both chlorine and chloramine from the water.
Dialysis centers will continue to treat the water to remove all chemical disinfectants, including chlorine and chloramine, before the water is used for dialysis. Home dialysis users should consult their machine manufacturers for instructions on how to properly treat their water before use.
