The fire fee on Water District monthly water bills helps purchase and maintain Dickinson Volunteer Fire Department (DVFD) firefighting equipment and personal safety items.
In 2017, Dickinson’s Water District voters authorized the district to collect fire protection fees from its customers. The pass-through fees provide a steady income to the fire department.
The department relies on these fees to buy the equipment they need to provide firefighting services throughout Dickinson. The department receives no other guaranteed financial support. Below are some of the items funded by the fee:
- 40 new air packs needed to meet federal standards – $325,000
- Used ladder truck – $285,000 (cost new $2.1 million)
- 60 800-MHz radios – $8,000 each
- Purchase of new fire engine – $1.1 million
- Personal protective equipment for use at major gas leak – $5,500 a set
- Annual truck maintenance cost for 2024 – $120,000
Dickinson’s Water District provides drinking water, wastewater and contracted solid waste collection services to more than 8,000 households and businesses in the greater Dickinson area.
